Reflection on Micro-teaching
As part of B.Ed. curriculum microteaching was done under the supervision of Mr. Nadeem Surfid at BNVCTE. Microteaching is a teacher training technique fist adopted by D W Allen and associates at Stanford University, in 1961. Objective of microteaching is to enable teacher trainees to gain teaching techniques and skills in controlled conditions and also help teacher trainees to gain self confidence. Microteaching is a scaled down teaching focusses on a single skill development and typically last for 5-10 minutes. It is presented Infront to 5-10 peers and teacher educator will give feedbacks to teacher trainees. For microteaching skills assigned to me are skill of using blackboard and skill of questioning.
Skill of using Blackboard is important as is is one of the widely used teaching aid in classrooms. Teacher uses blackboard to create a holistic idea of what is already taught in class. It is used to illustrate processes, organising information. Components of this skill includes; legibility in handwriting, neatness of blackboard work, appropriateness of work on the blackboard etc...
Skill of questioning is very important as it help the pupils to think and learn by themselves. It also help pupils to recollect their understanding and reinforce information for this purpose questions should be precise and meaningful. Questions should be grammatically correct, concise, direct and straight forward, related to topic and should be specific. Teachers should ask the question to the whole class and call out one of the student at a time to answer it. while questioning teacher should avoid yes/no questions, avoid echo questions and rhetorical questions.
Through microteaching various teaching skills are developed and improved gradually. Demonstrations helped us to get an idea and practicing it in real time helped us to understand our strengths and weaknesses. feedback sessions were very helpful in sharpening our skills and also helped us to get a total understanding of various skills and how to present it.
