The term 'Communicative competence' was originally defined by Dell Hymes in1966.
It is the ability to achieve communicative goals in a socially appropriate manner.
Dell Hymes divided competencies into broad range of communication elements:
1. Grammatical or Linguistic Competence
2.Discourse Competence
3. strategic Competence
4. sociolinguistic competence
